To get a restful night’s sleep even with tinnitus, work out before bedtime. Exercise will tire your body out, and will leave you so exhausted that you’ll be able to drift off to sleep peacefully without focusing on your tinnitus. Taking a hot bath after your workout can make falling asleep even easier.
Consider your prescription medications when you are looking for the cause of your tinnitus. Many pills on the market can cause tinnitus. If you stop taking the medication, it may end your tinnitus symptom. If possible, and under medical supervision, try to stop taking each medication one at a time for a week and see if doing so ends the tinnitus.
If you have a diagnosis of tinnitus, be sure to mention it on the first visit if you see a new doctor. There are many medications, over-the-counter and prescription, which can worsen the symptoms of tinnitus. If you experience new or increasing tinnitus symptoms soon after beginning a new medication, talk to your doctor about changing your prescription.
Many tinnitus sufferers hear the phrase, “don’t panic.” You might find this advice unhelpful or annoying; however, staying calm is important for managing tinnitus. Panic causes anxiety and stress which can cause tinnitus symptoms. Tinnitus is generally not a secondary effect of a more serious condition. It is an irritating condition, but it is no cause for panic. Use white noise to block out the constant ringing of tinnitus. Try a peaceful instrumental arrangement that allows you to concentrate on your task at hand. This can distract you from the sounds in your ears, allowing you to complete your tasks.
Only give yourself 15 minutes to get to sleep. If you fail to fall asleep within this time, get up and go to another room. Don’t do anything overly vigorous! Make every attempt to relax, instead. By teaching your body that you only sleep in bed, will help prevent tossing and turning. Once you get your tinnitus symptoms under control, you can begin to focus your attention on the root of the problem. If the problem suddenly appeared, it may be easier to find the cause. Treating your tinnitus so that it will go away will be very difficult if you do not know what caused it in the first place. Don’t leave any stone unturned in your quest to find the solution.
Have your dentist check your jaw for some sort of dysfunction, as this could be a cause of tinnitus. For example, TMJ sufferers sometimes get tinnitus. If this is your situation, you can ask a dentist to help you align your jaw to help tinnitus.
